Toilet training for grown-ups
It is somewhat telling that we live in a society where one can’t be trusted to know how to behave.
On the one hand these are places of entertainment and consumption, where you are the supreme being, the entity to please whom all this exists. On the other hand, you are being constantly reminded of what acceptable behaviour constitutes.

The mall’s not at fault. They’re doing what it takes to keep the place running. The curious bit is in the image the mall projects (sophisticated, luxurious, etc) contrasted with their expectation of an actual customer as revealed by such signs.
