Making home
This pigeon couple has been trying to build a nest in my exhaust fan over the last month, but the twigs keep falling to the floor. This morning they laid an egg in the ‘nest’.
The egg is at risk of falling through. I don’t need the exhaust anyway, so maybe I should stuff a rag in the back. But how do I do it without touching the egg? Won’t the pigeons abandon it if I do touch?
Depending on how you want to look at it, I’ve got egg on my floor or infanticide on my hands.

If it was rat which had laid a ratling, would you have hesitated?
Look at it the same way.
Pigeons are responsible(in part) for dissaperance of sparrows etc., from the ecology, and now in every high rise you find countless pigeons. I have struggled with eggs laid on the washing machine, in the balcony. Have had to break countless eggs, because I want to use my washing machine, don’t want to donate it.
Also when a dust storm comes their nests dislodge more often than not and I have yucky eggs on the floor.
So I suggest you either cook the egg or throw it. If you touch it the pigeons will not come back. If you don’t touch it you will have mess on your floor.

>Pigeons are responsible(in part) for dissaperance of sparrows etc., from the ecology,
Can you please help me understand this statement - Why are they responsible.
Thanks in advance.

They are birds which stay in packs. And they occupy all nesting sites, esp sites which are not very good for other birds. So when pigeon infestation takes place in an area all other birds are driven out. Check out any highrise and you will see that the only bird you will find is a pigeon

I dont think pigeons are at fault for the dwindling population of sparrows. There are many other speculations but they all need study / research.

Now that is irrefutable :P

Seriously, you can’t do much in this case. Do try and prevent the pigeons from nesting in a dangerous place..now that the egg is gone.
