What is it with Air Deccan and tires in the cargo hold? Merely odd coincidence?

    Air Deccan and remote airports
Air Deccan flies to some of the most remote airports in India. Some of these airstrips built during British days and in most cases Air Deccan is the only carrier to that airport. So not a surprise they may have many incidents of hard landing which requires frequent or backup tires at their remote (non hub) stations.

Re: Air Deccan and remote airports
Interesting theory, but the tire was clearly the wrong size for the plane carrying it. Air Deccan only flies ATRs and A320s, and I doubt the A320s (for which this tire may be suitable) are used in those remote areas.

    Give em a break.

Most airlines do this when flying to airports without proper facilities.
After all, why pay others to ship spare parts when you are already in the transportation business.

See, that is the curious part. I’ve seen this at Chennai and Hyderabad airports, both of which can be expected to have decent facilities.

      Or maybe not.

And how are we sure that the tires being unloaded at Chennai or Hyd. were not the damaged ones the airplane picked up at a smaller regional airport and if getting to the metro city for a fix/recycle.

Because the flight was coming from Bangalore, where presumably Air Deccan has facilities, that being their hub.

          Or maybe not.

I want to continue this trip … maybe Bangalore Airport doesn’t have any more storage/engineering space (we all know that) … so the tires were sent from some small airport to Bangalore (hub, et al) and then to Hyd or Chennai.

Or the other way round … the tires were being sent from BLR to Hyd/Chennai and then to be fwd’ed to a smaller airport!
