Air Deccan flies to some of the most remote airports in India. Some of these airstrips built during British days and in most cases Air Deccan is the only carrier to that airport. So not a surprise they may have many incidents of hard landing which requires frequent or backup tires at their remote (non hub) stations.

Interesting theory, but the tire was clearly the wrong size for the plane carrying it. Air Deccan only flies ATRs and A320s, and I doubt the A320s (for which this tire may be suitable) are used in those remote areas.

Most airlines do this when flying to airports without proper facilities.
After all, why pay others to ship spare parts when you are already in the transportation business.

Or maybe not.

Or the other way round … the tires were being sent from BLR to Hyd/Chennai and then to be fwd’ed to a smaller airport!
