Mud-slinging extravaganza

The BLUG is organising a special meeting for the explicit purpose of pinning up dirty laundry and getting it muckier. I’ve been summoned to the proceedings and been asked to conduct myself with grace and rationality. Not wanting to be a sitting duck however, I plan to spend the day absconding, thumbing my nose at them.

See, I understand I’m something of a mini-celebrity these days, but when people plan entire gatherings around my presence without bothering to notify me until the last moment, that is a whole new high.

Will they put up an effigy and throw knives at it?

I think it was announced on the 13th. Don't know when you were notified personally though, I just know when it was announced on the mailing list.

Man, were those worth drooling. Single mold, perfectly balanced, designed to not need sharpening for well over a year of active use.

If I spent more time in the kitchen, I'd have these on my shopping list by now.

Real men use those knives to shave their pubes. As for me, I use a flame torch I used to use while arc welding ... comes in handy yaknow?

Funny how this thread has remained full of shit ...

    Fame mining from BLUG ?
Who is this guy Atul Chutneys ?
Is he someone worth paying attention to ?
Just from reading few of his posts,
it sounds like he wants to be the
    chief spokesperson for anything remotely
    related to computing in Bangalore.
Is he a learned man ? Is he a CS researcher ?
Or somone riding the BLUG for fame and fortune ?

Why don't you go there and ask, or on their lists? And mind your spellings, or it'll be an unfruitful exercise.

No muck-raking in my journal, please.

now he is pissed off because the best ever barcamp in the world was held in bengalooru without him at the helm - and the reason for success was that the organisers were dumb enough to ignore his advice

you are lucky - someone pointed out the post to me. I didnt get summoned but noticed my name in the list of defendants. Obviously I am going to be set ex-parte and tried in absentia. But the most interesting thing is that this blug meeting was anounced on the foss.in mailing list. Clearly the whole exercise is aimed at the foss.in crowd, because there are no doubters or dissenters in blug. And why was sid carter left out? Incorrigible?

    Thats the idea ...
You realise that since noone will turn up, certain parties will declare the righteousness of their stand by default. Not that it really matters in the greater scheme of things.

That said, I'm not turning up either.

Ummmm... This summon thing is a bit weird to me. Anyway, the thread which happened on list was actually something which most people (me, Kallu, Arun, Shyam etc) thought was the right thing to do, i dont know a lot about the past, other than what i have heard on your journal or kingsly's letter or atul's journal, So i would not comment on it.

The Blug's moved on from those days. I think today its largely directed by people like [info]fox2mike [info]tejasd etc who are actually FOSS contributers and not just enthusiasts. I tght it would be fun to get a mix of the old style blug meet and a new style blug meet, which is precisely why i thought it was a good idea to try sorting things out. Its a different issue that outwardly they probably dont write up the jazz and pat themselves on the back.

It wasn't meant to be a summon, it was meant to be "Lets sort things out if you are free" kinda thing afaik, atleast on the list. Anyway, we both have better things to do than discuss on this probably never ending story.

That sounds good, but I'll believe it when the BLUG's resources are owned by the BLUG itself, with clear documentation on policies. As far as I can tell, this is still a smoke and mirrors affair.

I know today's meet is for precisely this sort of question, but I don't care enough to bother coming. If the BLUG wants old-timers back, it needs to be more sincere.

I don't know about the "BLUG" being more sincere. I liked the way the community was before[*], and I find I find it sad that a community that could mean (even do) something is held back by things most of the people in the current community aren't even completely aware of.

[1] As for tranparency and policies, I also believe they should be well-defined and followed.

very simple - 1. Move the blug website back to the original linux-bangalore url with the current webmaster retaining control. 2. appoint a couple more admins for the mailing lists. 3. Since foss.in is claims to be a separate entity from blug (although both currently operate under the same ownership), this separation should be made explicit and stated explicitly. I do know of several people who support foss.in thinking that it is conducted by a linux users group but would think twice if they knew it was under private ownership.

As for the summons thingie - how am I supposed to know about a meeting where I am expected to attend - I am not a member of blug lists and no mail was sent to me. Some one casually mentioned the thing to me yesterday asking if I was attending. Thats when I heard of it.

meeting aparently took place - a discussion was 'started' on the blug.in site, I took up the invitation and made two posts - one has gone for moderation and vanished. The other appeared for a few hours and also vanished. Both were rational and reasonably polite. I dont think these people are ready to change or accept divergent views.

It would have been better, if these people(Mr. Atul and other BLUGers) had heeded to what Arun Sharma and thaths had to say about formalising the LUG...

Where there is money, there are rifts.

If only Mr. Atul was clever as most of the things that he has written(not his speeches!)...
