Yedakumeri revisited

I extracted GPS tracks and projected them on a map.

Yedakumeri trek

For more fun, try visualising in Google Earth. Or if you’d like, raw GPX data.

Super cool stuff dude... I guess the loss of info in between was coz of tunnels.

I never realized this but we were acually walking downhill all the time :P

Kukke looks too far from Gundya! Doesn't the track lead down to Kukke if you follow it after Gundya exit?

Subramanya was ~20km from Gundya, about an hour by jeep. I think the only reason we went there was because it was the nearest large town with a travel agent. It's not in the rail route.

Are you sure? I'd heard that Kukke is about a day's trek (or less) away from Gundya on the same train track. The serious trekkers used to do it as a slow 3 day trek: Donigal - Edakumeri - Gundya - Kukke.

Google also says the same, for example this entry. I was surprised of how far Kukke is from Gundya on the map because of this reason. It doesn't look like it can reached in a day.

Or have they ripped out the tracks after Gundya now?

There is another place some 3-5km after the Gundya exit where we had originally planned to end the trek. I don't remember the name now. No one was certain if the tracks went all the way to Subramanya.
