USB power

In Bangkok I found a car cigarette lighter to USB power adapter for 40 baht. I bought two. They’d have cost ten to fifty times more branded. In KL I found a USB phone charger with replaceable sockets for the popular brands that works with both my Nokias. I already have two USB wall socket adapters that came with portable music players. Rio makes the smaller and lighter one.

What joy to be not lugging adapters around. If only laptops could be charged off USB too.

I've got two motorola USB power adaptors but they are rated differently so I'm still lugging 2 different power adaptors around.

    5V 550mA vs 850mA.

Any idea how many mA can a device draw when connected directly to a USB port ?

IIRC, 500 mA per port. I got a USB hub that came with a power cable (also USB), to be used when devices on the hub collectively draw more than 500 mA.

My Nokia adapters are rated at different voltages. 5.3 (old) and 5.7 (new). Both phones are happy with just 5V from USB.
