Reclining Buddha

Reclining Buddha
The Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, Bangkok. Because of the surrounding pillars, this is the only point from where you can see the entire structure. The resulting accumulation of tourists makes it appear like paparazzi hounding a celebrity.

Awesome. I suddenly felt a pang for not being there.

And jfr, god has always been the number on celebrity all the world around.

Hey, what happened to the original pictures... this one is clearer, but it also has all those pesky people...

It's interesting to see the buddha's foot prints have faded near the bottom, where I suppose a lot of the devout have been touching. *sigh* religion...

Those are at [info]jacemobile. I also have a clear picture with the D70, but it's not particularly exciting -- any guide book will carry one like that.

About the fading: those are only the toes. The full feet are too big to fit into a frame, given how little space there is around.

It's beautiful. Funily enough it is the twelfth image/idol of the Buddha I've seen today!

Yup. This is one tough subject to photograph. I waited till the hall was clear and managed two shots before the next batch came in.

It is funny that the hall only allows a few different views of the Buddha to be photographed. Here is what my eyes saw back in 2001:

Quite similar to what you saw.
