Thunderbird on a Mac sucks big time. i've switched to using a web-based mail system on the Mac until i find a better email client.

What webmail client are you using? After using gmail, I can't touch anything else with a bargepole.

One needs to have a Mac to use it I guess. :( I have to stick to TB on Windows XP - it is definitely better than Outlook. :)

BTW, any suggestions for a better and free email client on Windows XP, other than TB ?

The last time I used Windows, Outlook Express was the only client with proper support for IMAP. Everything else sucked. I have no idea what the scene is like currently.

      mutt.

I was using Evolution for a couple of years, until the suckage got to me (no keyboard shortcuts for previous and next message? wtf?).

Gnus on all platforms seems to do the trick.

Amen. Some radiant soul once said, "Forget about writing portable makefiles. Use a portable make instead". That applies equally well for most bread and butter tools of our trade. Emacs is one helluva virtual machine...

      OS X Mail
I used Eudora for five years before switching, with some pain and adjustment, to OS X Mail about two years ago. It's good but not great. Poor search results and filtering are my biggest complaints.

        Re: OS X Mail
I quite like the filtering, but yes, the search ability sucks. Apple's promising that will change with Spotlight in Tiger.

What made you try thunderbird in the first place?

I wanted to keep personal mail separate from work mail, to minimise distractions.
