Rolling along

Rolling Along
Hyderabad’s Hussain Sagar lake—better known as Tank Bund—provides much needed open space in the heart of the city. The lake’s shores are lined with parks, walkways, memorials, and some excellent commercial spaces like Eat Street on Necklace road, the venue for Saturday’s LJ meet.

Eat Street is a strip mall of eating joints with seating on the terrace, where you can dine in the cool breeze and gaze into the vast waters. It’s easily the best location for a get-together I’ve ever been in. Eat Street makes chump change out of Bangalore’s Forum.

We sorely lack a space like this in Bangalore.

Tank Bund is the elevated road(Bund=Dam) connecting hyd-sec'bad ... the lake is called Hussain Sagar 364 days a year... on the other day it's called Vinayaka Sagar.

I lived in Hyderabad a few years in my childhood, and as far as I remember, the name "Tank Bund" referred to the entire place. Here's a site which corroborates.

First hit on google for Tank Bund

IAC 10-15 years ago... people only went to Tank Bund as there was no necklace road or lumbini park...

We used to go there for morning walks when I was kid and there were no statues or lawn either! There used to be a HUGE chicken shaped shop(I think) on the side the statues are now...

You are right. Tank Bund is the road, which also is a dam if you go below the road (on the side) and see. The Lake is not called the Tank Bund.

Oh well. I guess it was acceptable to confuse them when the road was the only access to the lake, but now the lake deserves to be known by its own name.

And this beauty of a place is made pathetic during Ganesh Nimarjan. Would you actually believe that *all* of Hyderabad Ganesh idols go into this very lake.

Can you imagine if the lake ever dries up and what's left is a vast bed of Ganesh idols that refused to break down? Should be an awesome sight.

Interesting thought! In fact, former AP CM, Mr.Chandrababu Naidu was actually very strict on this. All the idols are to removed from Hussain Sagar the next day of immersion irrespective of whichever state they're in - no questions asked.

      You + anything = joint

You + food = food Joint

You + friends = Hangout Joint
You + alcohol - common sense = drinking joint
You + (hash, grass, coke, blow) - future = smoking joint
