Table for two

Table for Two
[info]vipul and [info]appughar at Bademiya’s in South Bombay, in the late night edition of Monday’s LJ meet (more pictures).

Bademiya’s is a roadside sheek kabab joint that has greatly grown in fame and fortune over the years—and still remains a roadside joint. The lane is now adorned with tables occupying all available space.

Another family was at this table when I first saw it. We came back a few minutes later and saw them leaving, and I had Vipul and Appu take over (they were sitting down to order anyway).

A regular haunt. Somebody scared me by saying it had closed down! Glad he is open and thriving.
btw, my parent live about 3 blocks away for there :)

doesn't he still have a couple of "charpaii(s)" around?

Wish I could have stuck around, but I'd promised my cousins that I'd take them out for Pani Puri that evening. Unfortunately got stuck in traffic because of the Mahim Mela, and got home too late. Could only take them for Kulfi then.

    Great pic! :-D

I wish I could say the same about the food at bademiya.

The place where we were sitting at felt silly! The "tiled" portion is barely 2-feet in depth! Still even [info]jace managed to fit-in after taking the snap, with room for one to spare!

I've had much better kebabs, at much lower prices, in a much better setting. Maybe it was the hype about Bademiyan that raised expectations too high. There are those who tell me that there has definitely been degradation. This was the first time I ate there, so can't give a before-after perspective.

          yep, Bade's is overhyped.
but it is was pretty decent, anyway.

Didn't know about the degradation. Therefore the comment.

Agree about the degradation. Few places maintain quality across publicity and recognition. Would like to hear about places which have succeeded.
Hirsh (spelling?) Bakery Bandra and Koolar Matunga come to mind. Though I don't how these were more than 6 years ago.
