A meal at the end of the day

A Meal at the End of the Day
The south Indian darshini. The original stand-up breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant. Where else in the world can you imagine a small furry animal, and look down to find a little boy between your feet, scrubbing the floor?

But this is not one of those places. In Chickpet, there is no place to even stand up. In Chickpet, you take your meal and eat standing on the road, which is anyway too narrow for more than a vehicle apiece. I went there again Sunday afternoon and had a seven rupee lunch, topped off with a three rupee golisoda. Few meals have been as joyous.

The light was too harsh in the afternoon, and a cop chased the vendor away while I was still finishing my glass. I wanted a picture of the steam rising from dosas, but had messy hands, and then it was too late. No afternoon pictures.

the cops have nothing better to do than harass hard-working folks! Atleast you enjoyed the dosas and soda. Pl post close-ups next time.

Will do. I don't frequent that neighbourhood, so I found it fascinating too. This one, and the man sleeping in basket-shade, are the only pictures I have from the area.

Nice picture. Reminds me of a painting or a painter, can't recall now.

(My father normally drives a car around town. Occasionally, he gets the scooter out, dusts it, bends it and does the things you need to do to start a scooter after a couple of months. Someone will say, "Chickpet?" and he will nod grimly.)

I wish I had transport that left my hands free to use a camera. There's so much interesting stuff on the streets. I see pictures everywhere, but the hands are bound to the handlebar. A momentary glimpse, a frame, a composition, and then it's the rickshaw I'm about to crash into.

A narrow field of view out the side, but still the best there is.

Golisoda reminds me of [info]golisoda. Though I do not know him, his user name brings an instant smile. :)

I guess this is using the new lens? Picture clarity is amazing!

BTW, what do you get for 7 rupees? Is it good?

New lens. Shot this and the Srishti pic the same day as the man with the basket.

Lunch was Pulao (Rs. 6) plus Bonda (Re. 1). Was filling.
