I need to get technology agnostic. That means I need to stop giving so much priority to technologies that I'm close to, and actively adopt technologies that I've previously ignored for reasons not related to the merit of the technology itself.

Switching to Mac OS X from Linux is a start. Now there's lots more to do.

    A retrograde step?
Sounds like a retrograde step to me. Having said that, I'm too poor to afford another Jaguar license, and my wallstreet powerbook doesn't like my darling openBSD or netBSD, so I'm lumbered with debian/pmac. If I could get openBSD to happly beside OS 9 on the internal HDD I'd change so fast I'd go dizzy.

Interesting. I've idly considered that from time to time, and yet, the first thing I see myself doing the moment I get a mac would be trying to figure out how I can get some linux working on it. (Though of course, thats still very much a pipe dream for me at this stage.)

At the end of it all, it all traces back to an old Performa ad - its not what you use as much as what it can do for you.

If you get a Mac, I seriously recommend you use the Mac OS X it comes with. OSX is BSD underneath anyway, and you can get the GNU toolchain, X11 and all your X11 apps running on it with practically no effort. The only thing you'll miss is /proc.

That's kind of what I was thinking...
I hope I won't need a new computer for a while, but when my current computer finally gives up, I'm seriously considering moving from Linux to OS/X. (Although, I don't see how I can live without my 3-button scrolling mouse.)

I'm using a 3-button scrolling mouse with Mac OS X right now and it works just fine. These letters are also coming out of a PC keyboard which has both a Backspace and a Delete key, and both keys work exactly as expected.
