Saw Girl Interrupted today. Actually went to see Stewart Little, but got the show timings wrong and ended up seeing this one instead. I've heard good comments on GI, but I'm frankly at a loss of understanding on what it was all about.

Just came in to work (yes, I know the time). For once, X was not dead.

Came in to find X dead again. Ping packets got responses, but ssh wouldn't let me in. I had to resort to the button.

I'm trying to get a serial mouse and a PS/2 trackball to both work at the same time. I tried using XFree86 4.0's support for multiple pointer devices, but it just keeps crashing. Only one at a time works. Tried using gpm to handle both devices and have X read from /dev/gpmdata. gpm works, but X never sees any motion. Under Windows, this was as simple as booting up...

Just did something dangerous: overwrote the data files of a live MySQL server that was servicing many queries every minute. It worked, but MySQL needed restarting before it recognised the new data. It must have cached the indexes.

Just trying out a trackball. Took some getting used to on the desktop, but I still can't play Quake with it -- keeps swinging up and down wildly.

Played around a bit with the GIMP yesterday. It's amazing what can be done using just the clone tool. The results are currently not available on the Web though.

It was a backslash after all. It was meant to be a shell escape. There was a forward-slash missing before it though.

Apache with Zap is up now. The Zap distribution had a bug -- a wrongly slanted slash (back instead of forward). Kept Rakesh and me ion it for about half an hour.

Found the crash culprit! It's X. I thought I was free from buggy drivers for the S3 Trio 3D/2X when I upgraded to XFree86 4.0. Guess not though. X locked up my display and would refuse to die when killed over the network. I was left with no choice but to initiate a reboot.
